Placenta covered your cervix now your baby has a brain injury? In some cases, parents are not aware that this medical condition can occur until they experience it and are told either during the pregnancy or during labor and delivery. With that said, this condition can cause serious injury, and possibly death in some instances.

PLACENTA COVERED YOUR CERVIX (PLACENTA PREVIA)
When the placenta covers, or partially covers your cervix, the medical condition is called placenta previa. In a normal pregnancy the placenta will usually develop opposite the cervix. However, in some cases the placenta will develop and either completely cover the cervix partially cover the cervix.
Doctors can use ultrasound technology to help them locate the placenta. If the placenta has covered the cervix one of the main areas of concern is with bleeding. Bleeding can usually be seen in the third trimester and in some instances can be heavy.
HOW CAN PLACENTA PREVIA LEAD TO A BRAIN INJURY?
As mentioned above, placenta previa can lead to heavy bleeding. Since the baby is a part of mother, bleeding by the mother can have adverse effects on the baby. This is because heavy bleeding by mother can lead to a reduced level of blood and oxygen for the baby.
When a baby is presented with a reduced level of blood and oxygen the odds of a brain injury occurring increase. One medical condition which can be the result reduced level of blood and oxygen is hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, or HIE.
During a vaginal delivery, doctors and nurses made notice that baby is no longer tolerating a vaginal delivery the cause the readings on the electronic fetal heart monitor. When the readings moved to non-reassuring doctors must be ready to assist the baby.
In the case of placenta previa, doctors must be ready to move to an emergency see section when warranted. Failure to do so can lead to the baby suffering a brain injury because of bleeding issues presented by mother.
