When Cerebral Palsy Diagnoses Typically Occur

A diagnosis for cerebral palsy in a child can vary, but generally will take place around 18-24 months. Due to this, a baby can progress through the early segment of their life without a cerebral palsy diagnosis. If the early milestones (between ages 1-5) are not met, parents will begin to seek medical attention for their child, which will include specialists that are needed to assist with the cerebral palsy diagnosis. Below you will find the types of cerebral palsy that can be diagnosed to determine the time frame:

\

Spastic Cerebral Palsy: A diagnosis around 6-9 months of age.

\

Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy: A diagnosis around 18-20 months of age.

\
Ataxic Cerebral Palsy: A diagnosis around 18-20 months of age.
