Birth Injuries

Seizures And Traumatic Brain Injury

If the brain experiences serious trauma, seizures can be the outcome for the baby. A baby can suffer from a traumatic brain injury upon delivery using forceps and vacuum type assisted deliveries that are used during the second stage of labor. At times, doctors utilize these instruments to assist the mother during her vaginal delivery when she is facing a struggle to push the baby through the birth canal.

An injury to the baby’s brain can occur when doctors use excessive force to lead the baby through delivery. Not only can a traumatic brain injury cause seizure, but it can also result in a child suffering from cerebral palsy in some instances.
