How Doctors Diagnose Preeclampsia

The monitoring of a mother’s blood pressure, along with the use of other tests is how doctors can diagnose preeclampsia. If any of the following conditions found below are present after 20 weeks, then the doctor may conduct further tests to confirm the diagnosis.

\

Liver Function Issues

\

Vision Problems

\

Fluid Build Up In The Lungs

\

Severe Headaches

\

Protein In Urine

The following tests can be performed to confirm a preeclampsia diagnosis.

\

Blood Tests: These tests help determine the functionality of the liver and kidneys

\

Fetal Ultrasound: The fetal ultrasound can detect the baby’s growth rate. If the placenta is unable to receive enough blood, then the growth of the baby can be restricted, which in turn suggests the presence of fetal growth restriction.

\

Urine Test: Doctors test for the presence and amount of protein in the urine.

\

Nonstress Test: A test that measures the baby’s heart rate when there are movements.
