Following birth, babies can suffer from seizures due to various factors such as a lack of blood and oxygen. Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy along with an extended labor due to shoulder dystocia, are a few scenarios where a baby can develop a seizure due to fetal hypoxia.

When the brain experiences an uncontrolled electrical disturbance [1] which leads to shaking, jerking, and a temporary loss of consciousness, a seizure has occurred.
