What are three questions to ask before hiring a birth injury attorney? From what I have been told by individuals who contact my office regarding help with a birth injury, knowing what to look for or what questions to ask can be difficult. With all the “information” on TV and online, how is one supposed to know what questions to ask to help them pick the best attorney for their family and situation?

The three questions that I list to ask are not exhaustive, but they will give you the foundation for the thought process you want to have when looking to hire a birth injury attorney for your baby’s injury at birth. Remember, knowledge used is power.

VIDEO…WHY IS VIDEO SO IMPORTANT?

One question you need to find the answer to is whether there is video available by the attorney/law firm that you can watch explaining the critical issues present in your case. Video is important because from a video you get to “connect” with the person on the video. You get to not only see the person, but you also get to get a “feel” for the attorney and firm.

Medical malpractice cases can take a long time, and it can be a challenge working with someone that you feel you may not work well with along the way. Maybe the attorney is “too aggressive” or you may not like their “delivery” of the information. Video can allow you to see more than what is written on a CV, or resume. For example, the video that I have in support of the Maryland birth injury article can give you an idea of who I am and whether I would be a good fit for your case.

IF THEY HAVE A WEBSITE WHAT’S ON IT?

In today’s time, almost all businesses have websites. If a business does not have a website, many consumers lose confidence in the business. Having a website is almost a given. With that said, what type of information is on the website?

I have had potential clients tell me that other sites they have visited looking for answers to their baby’s challenges have yielded them “cheering sections.” By that, the clients meant that the sites just talked on and on about the attorney and how much money they have recovered for clients. Very little information was provided to help them understand, for example, something like hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, or shoulder dystocia, from a medical legal standpoint.

When looking at the three questions to ask before hiring a birth injury attorney, understanding the information provided on an attorney’s website is important, indeed.

BOOKS…WHERE ARE THE BOOKS?

One of the most important things that a parent can do when trying to understand the facts and circumstances surrounding their baby’s birth injury is to read as much information about the injury, and potential treatment. When looking to hire an attorney or law firm regarding a possible birth injury, it is a good idea to get books and information regarding the process and how to analyze some of the issues.

Does the law firm that you are thinking to hire regarding your baby’s injury have any books or E-downloads for you to read later? Again, knowledge is power when used.
