When a child suffers an injury at birth parents are often left with many questions.
Was it something that I did as a mother which contributed to this?
Why did this happen to my baby?
These are just some of the many questions presented.
With that said, a mother is sometimes not at fault at all for their child’s injury.
Sometimes the blame is left at the foot of the doctors and hospitals.
For example, if a doctor fails to monitor the fetal heart monitor and the child suffers a brain injury because of this, a strong argument can be made that the child’s injury should be the responsibility of the doctor.
In many instances the brain injury to the child is due to the lack of oxygen to the brain.
The same thing can be said when doctors fail to use good and acceptable care in a shoulder dystocia situation and the child suffers a brachial plexus or other injury.
