In a time of electronic medical records, doctors must be sure to pay close attention to their patients.
When doctors are in a hurry, and are rushing though procedures, errors can occur.
For example, patient 1 goes into the hospital to have his tonsils removed.
Patient 2 is also in the hospital to have his gallbladder removed.
Both patients have the same last name and are on the same floor in the hospital.
The doctor performing the gallbladder surgery skims over the charts and records and just notices the last name.
This doctor goes in to patient 1’s room.
Patient 1 is only supposed to have his tonsils removed, remember.
Although this is a very simplistic example, it is used to show a bigger point, that is doctors and hospital staff are not on the same page, devastating consequences can happen to a patient.
