Often time patients find out that they are the victim of medical malpractice when they get a second opinion. This is because the doctor preforming the second opinion has an opportunity to not only review all of the patient’s medical records, but can also perform an examination of the patient if needed, and is applicable.
This second opinion doctor informs the patient of the mistakes and errors the original doctor made. However, when the patients asks that the doctor put these mistakes and findings in writing, the patient realizes that the second opinion doctor will not go this far.
In many instances this is the case because the doctor performing the second opinion does not want to “go against his or her colleagues.” By putting their statements in writing they are standing by their word, for all to read and see, regarding their opinion of the patient’s case. Many doctors are not willing to go this far.
Even though this does happen, medical malpractice attorneys can get medical experts who will agree with go on records and review a patient’s case. These experts will not be afraid to put their findings in writing and testify as to their conclusions.
