So you think that you have a Maryland medical malpractice case but you want to know how long will it take to settle the case? Want to hear the answer? Stay tuned.
Hello, I am Maryland medical malpractice attorney Marcus Boston and I want to briefly talk with you about how long it will take to settle your medical malpractice claim. The simple answer is that it can really vary. The reason that I say this is because there is a lot that goes into these cases.
For example, you will have to request all of your medical records. After this, these records must be examined by an expert to determine whether your treating medical professional broke any of the safety rules, or standard of care in your situation. After your expert has reviewed the records, he or she will then relay this information to your attorney for analysis and discussion.
Depending on the amount of records, and the complexity of the case, the time frame for all of this varies. In addition, an assessment will have to be made as to the extent of your injuries. On top of this, we have not even gotten to filing and whether depositions will be held. As you can see, this is a very long and complex process which deals with multiple players. And to top it off, this is not every detailed event in the process.
The reason why I have shared some of this with you is because if you are looking for your case to be over in say 30 days or so, walk away now. In some instances these cases can take years to settle and this assumes the case can be settled. Sometimes the other side will just take their chances at trial and drag things out even longer. So why am I explaining all of this to you today? So you can have insight and education as to the medical malpractice process here in Maryland. So you can really think about is this something you want to put yourself through, and possibly your family if you have one.
